Winter Trip

Have you ever heard about "JAPOW"? Japan + powder = JAPOW!.

Like you, all enthusiastic powder people are chasing deep, cold powder every year. If there is guaranteed deep snow, would you go there? Maybe... How about as well as deep powder, beautiful deciduous tree forest, delicious food, tasty sake, bullet train, old temples, snow monkeys, hot springs, kind people, clean city and more are in there would you go? Who would say "NO"!!

Japan is one of the deepest snow countries in the world with 2600 + years of history. Lots of visitors visit for just culture & history but you can have both, powder and culture!!

ONSIGHT CANADA has been running tour to Japan since the 2012-13 season.

Your guide is Japanese, let him show the culture side (dinning and sightseeing) as well as powder guiding.

Check out our powder trip in Japan for 2020-2021. Already half of the seats are sold.

Summer Trip

Japan is already very famous for deep powder skiing but not many people know about there are 3000m (10,000ft) high mountain ridges which are connected by mountain huts where you can stay for hiking / trekking season.

They serve meals and sleeping space in bunk beds so what you need to carry is only a day pack.

ONSIGHT CANADA leads a group to hiking trips to the Northern Japanese Alps in fall season.

Fall season would be the best timing to visit high mountains there because all deciduous tree's leaves turn to red or yellow in the fall. Also the temperature dropped to a comfortable range and mountains got much quieter at that time.

Who is your guide?

Yuji Akiyama

Yuji came over to Canada from downtown Tokyo, Japan in 2002.  He planed to stay in Canada for only one year to check out the mountains but he’s still here.  Seems he was trapped in Canadian deep pow and can’t get out! Yuji is a certified ACMG  Ski Guide and Canadian Avalanche Association Professional Member. Also he is certified as Ski guide and Hiking guide by JMGA ( Japanese Mountain Guide Association).  Yuji spends most of his winter with Chatte Creek Cat skiing.  When you don’t see him at Chatter creek, he’s likely guiding ski touring in the Rockies or Japan.  Yuji spends the summer months guiding Japanese hikers and backpackers in Rockies.  He lives year round in Canmore with his wife and two daughters.
